The Seeds of Love Sprout from "7 Lessons on Loving Yourself"

Dammy, the founder of The Little Sapling, has long been dedicated to promoting "7 Lessons on Loving Yourself" in elementary schools across Taiwan's rural areas. This curriculum aims to plant the seeds of love in every child's heart through education, guiding them to understand their self-worth and learn to care for themselves. The lessons cover aspects such as emotional management, building self-confidence, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, gratitude, setting dreams, and facing challenges. Dammy firmly believes that only when children learn to love themselves can they have the capacity to love others, thereby building a society filled with love and support.

Corporations Practicing ESG to Create a Benevolent Society

In addition to implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) with practical actions for four consecutive years, TAITRA also called on all enterprises to make the world a better place through their actions. This carnival also specially invited children from rural areas across Taiwan to participate in a 3-day, 2-night camp, where they learned and grew alongside urban students, bridging geographical and resource disparities. This not only broadened the children's horizons but also greatly benefited their future innovative capabilities. A benevolent society should consider how to balance the educational gap between urban and rural areas and actively promote resource sharing, which is also the continuous direction of joint efforts by The Little Sapling and BLACK Frames Bilingual Magazine.

Although the event has successfully concluded, the act of spreading love still needs to continue. The Little Sapling calls on every family, every school, and every enterprise to promote mutual communication, bridge distances, and resolve misunderstandings through "The Hug of Hearts Movement," allowing society to continuously move towards a benevolent direction. By nurturing every soul with love, every little sapling can grow up happily and healthily.

What is "The Hug of Hearts Movement"?

Represents a commitment to 3 weeks of action.

Stands for spending 5 minutes each day actively listening to your child.

Means hugging your child for 7 seconds each day.

The "357 Hug of Hearts Movement" advocates for daily hugs, which are not just expressions of emotion but also a scientifically grounded healthy behavior. Multiple studies indicate that daily hugs lasting 5 seconds or more can have significant positive impacts on our physical and mental well-being, even improving our quality of life at a physiological level:

Oxytocin: The Love Hormone and Conflict Resolution

Hugging promotes the brain's release of oxytocin, a neurotransmitter often called the "hug hormone" or "love hormone." Scientific research indicates that oxytocin is closely linked to establishing interpersonal trust, security, intimacy, and social bonding.

Reduces Aggression and Violent Tendencies: While oxytocin, in certain contexts, might increase defensive aggression towards "out-groups" (e.g., the "mama bear effect"), it has generally been shown to enhance empathy and reduce aggressive behavior. In daily interpersonal interactions, sufficient oxytocin helps lower unnecessary friction and violent conflicts, fostering more peaceful coexistence.

Boosts Trust and Social Support: Oxytocin can deepen trust between people, making it easier for individuals to feel supported and understood. This increase in trust is crucial for building harmonious family, school, and community environments.

Stress Regulation and Emotional Stability

Extended hugs have a significant alleviating effect on the body's stress response system:

Lowers Cortisol Levels: Hugging effectively reduces the secretion of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is the primary stress hormone, and chronically high levels can negatively impact health. Lowering cortisol helps alleviate anxiety and stress.

Increases Serotonin and Dopamine: Hugs also promote the release of "happy hormones" like serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters play a crucial role in mood regulation, helping to enhance emotional stability and feelings of happiness, and even contributing to the alleviation of depressive moods.

Alleviates Unease and Fear: Research shows that even hugging inanimate objects (like stuffed animals) can help reduce anxiety in individuals with low self-esteem and prevent them from isolating themselves. This indicates that the physical touch from hugging can provide a sense of security, effectively alleviating unease and fear.

Physiological Health Benefits

Beyond the psychological aspect, hugging also has direct benefits for physical health:

Boosts Immune System: Some studies have found that individuals who receive social support and are frequently hugged have a lower risk of contracting common cold viruses; even if they do get sick, their symptoms tend to be milder. This is attributed to hugging's ability to reduce stress, thereby allowing the immune system to function more effectively.

Improves Cardiovascular Health: A study on couples found that those who held hands for 10 minutes and then hugged for 20 seconds had significantly lower blood pressure and heart rates compared to a control group that sat silently, indicating a positive impact of hugging on heart health.

Fosters Parent-Child Relationships and Child Development

For children, the importance of hugging is particularly pronounced:

Builds Healthy Attachment: Children who frequently receive parental affection and hugs during infancy and early childhood grow up with healthier psychological states and self-confidence, and do not become overly dependent. Hugs instill in children a core belief of being loved and accepted.

Enhances Social Skills and Empathy: Children who regularly experience warm touch from their parents learn to understand others' emotions more quickly, develop good interpersonal relationships and empathy, and are helped to reduce aggressive behavior and impulsive tendencies.

Beneficial for Brain Development: Research shows that early physical contact, such as "Kangaroo Care," significantly benefits premature infants' weight gain, intellectual development, and even the efficiency of neural information transmission in the brain. This indicates that hugging and touch are crucial for children's brain development.

In summary, a daily hug is not just a simple action; it is backed by profound scientific evidence, bringing multiple benefits at physiological, psychological, and social levels. This is precisely the power conveyed by the "Love Festival" and "The Hug of Hearts Movement"—making society better through love and connection.
