On Emotions

People often ask me: “How do you manage to stay so calm and unfazed, even when dealing with utterly unreasonable people or toxic situations?”

Why Do We Experience Emotions?

Emotions are fundamentally evolutionary survival mechanisms. Fear prompts us to flee from danger; anger drives us to defend our boundaries. In the modern world, however, emotions reflect our internal mental bandwidth.

Those who regulate their emotions have learned to create a deliberate pause between a stimulus and their reaction. Conversely, those who react impulsively or aggressively rarely do so out of "honesty"—they simply lack the internal capacity to process distress, projecting their helplessness outward.

Reframing: It’s Rarely About You

“I don't know what you are going through that makes you so upset. I know you have your reasons. And I hope you make it through. Wish you the best!”

Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about. When someone lashes out, you are often just an innocent bystander catching the fallout of their internal storm.

When a reckless driver cuts you off, tell yourself they might be rushing to an emergency room or a personal crisis. By reframing their behavior with empathy, you disarm their impact on your peace of mind.

The Ultimate Countermove: Walking Away / Block Them

You are the sole custodian of your own mental state.

When confronted with overt hostility, the smartest response is neither escalation nor debate—it is simply walking away. Refusing to step into their chaos leaves their storm exactly where it belongs: with them.
